Anchor

Anchor

The “Anchor Lord Willingdon” is one of the four original anchors of the first dredger ship named Lord Willingdon. This dredger played a major role in the historic development of Cochin Port and was an important part of Sir Robert Bristow’s visionary project to transform Cochin into a world-class harbor.
Sir Robert Bristow, often regarded as the architect of modern Cochin Port, designed and executed large-scale dredging and harbor development works during the British era. The dredger Lord Willingdon was one of the principal instruments used in carrying out these engineering operations, helping create the modern shipping channel and port infrastructure.
This preserved anchor stands today as a historical symbol of Kochi’s maritime heritage and the remarkable engineering achievements that contributed to the growth of Cochin as one of India’s significant ports.
