Three-Dimensional Navy

Three-Dimensional Navy

The Three Dimensional Navy exhibit highlights the Indian Navy’s capability to operate effectively across all three domains of maritime warfare—surface, underwater, and air. This integrated force structure enables the Navy to protect India’s vast maritime interests, secure sea lines of communication, and respond rapidly to threats across the Indian Ocean Region.

India possesses a coastline of approximately 7,516 kilometres and an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) extending over two million square kilometres. Safeguarding this vast maritime area is a critical responsibility of the Indian Navy. In addition, a significant portion of India’s international trade, amounting to more than 200 million tonnes of cargo annually, is transported by sea through major and minor ports located along both coasts.

To meet these challenges, the Indian Navy maintains a balanced and technologically advanced force comprising:

Surface Fleet – Aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates, corvettes, patrol vessels, and amphibious ships.
Submarine Arm – Conventional and nuclear-powered submarines capable of underwater surveillance, deterrence, and combat operations.
Naval Aviation – Carrier-borne fighters, maritime patrol aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned systems that extend the Navy’s operational reach.

The combination of these three elements gives the Indian Navy the ability to conduct sustained operations in distant waters, protect maritime trade routes, provide humanitarian assistance, support disaster relief missions, and defend national interests both during peace and conflict.

This exhibit illustrates how the integration of sea, underwater, and air capabilities has transformed the Indian Navy into a strong, balanced, and credible maritime force, capable of operating in the high seas for extended periods and safeguarding India’s maritime security.
